Crummy Soccer

Christian had his first soccer game last weekend. From the time we signed him up until the moment he went on the soccer field he came up with some pretty interesting words to describe how he was feeling about the whole thing.  He said soccer was "crummy", the "dumbest game ever" and that he didn't want to play. He even was honest enough to say that he didn't like to try new things or meet new friends.  That's a pretty grownup thing to admit, don't you think?  The night before the game he cried and said he wasn't going to play.  The morning of it he said to me "number one, what is soccer anyway?" "And how many minutes does it take to get my treat?"  Thank goodness for the treat!
I wasn't able to be at his first game, but when he came home he was in a good mood and said he liked soccer. I hope he has fun next time too or we're in for a long season.

He needs to know how cool soccer is so go ahead and call it 'futbol' and show him so Lionel Messi youtube clips like this one of Messi at around Christian's age: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55jqi0ZjDWc and this more recent one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jenupVFSzjs&feature=related
